In summer 2021, Andorra Turisme produced Andorra Mountain Music together with La Borda Creativa and First Sound Music. The series took place on the Soldeu platform, at an altitude of 1,800 metres, between 26 June and 31 July. Five dates brought Armin van Buuren, Mónica Naranjo, Bob Sinclar, Don Diablo and David Guetta to the site while public health restrictions were in place and the high-mountain setting imposed its own conditions.

La Borda Creativa took part in the overall event production in Andorra and coordinated the audiovisual work commissioned from Fluge, which supplied the sound, lighting and video. This case study sets out the documented scope, operational constraints and decisions that allowed the festival to adapt as circumstances changed.

The project: five concerts on the Soldeu platform

Andorra Mountain Music was part of the summer programme organised by Andorra Turisme in 2021. The venue covered 10,000 m² and operated with a limit of 4,000 attendees. The opening date, headlined by Armin van Buuren, drew approximately that number.

The schedule comprised five performances that went ahead and one date that had to be rearranged. Texas could not travel to Andorra, and DJ Snake was announced as the replacement for 24 July. That performance was ultimately cancelled due to tighter restrictions and the trend in ticket sales. David Guetta closed the series on 31 July with a sold-out show.

The weekly programme required the needs of international artists, the promoter, production teams and suppliers to be coordinated within a temporary venue. Beyond what happened on stage, each date depended on access, the build, testing, support for artist teams, audience control and dismantling. The location added a decisive variable: everything had to work at 1,800 metres, with different access and weather conditions from those of an urban venue.

La Borda Creativa’s role

La Borda Creativa was part of the production team alongside Andorra Turisme and First Sound Music. Fluge Audiovisuales records that La Borda Creativa commissioned it to supply the festival’s sound, lighting and video.

The project had to bring together the promoter, production teams, the audiovisual supplier and the requirements of each performance within a weekly schedule. This coordination had to respond both to the mountain setting and to changing public health conditions, while keeping sight of build times, testing and doors opening.

On a project of this scale, production involves more than bringing suppliers together. It also means defining responsibilities, organising the information each team receives and anticipating where an artistic, technical, weather-related or public health change could affect the whole event. We now apply the same approach to artist booking and coordination: define the scope from the outset and maintain a clear operational point of contact through to completion.

Audiovisual production at 1,800 metres

Fluge supplied the sound, lighting and video equipment, including a d&b P.A. system, a central LED screen and multi-camera production. The case study documents how this festival-scale audiovisual system was coordinated on a mountain platform over several consecutive dates.

The location meant planning for access by personnel and equipment, build times, equipment protection and possible changes in the weather. A storm on the David Guetta date led to a precautionary evacuation before the performance resumed. It shows the importance of contingency procedures and a chain of command that everyone involved can understand.

In this type of operation, the response to an incident depends on preparation: named leads, communication between departments and alternatives agreed before doors open. The fact that the concert resumed after the evacuation does not remove the risk that existed; it shows why production needs a margin for contingencies and the ability to adapt.

Public health arrangements that changed during the series

From the Bob Sinclar concert onwards, the authorities tightened the entry requirements. Attendees had to show proof of vaccination or a negative test, or take an antigen test at the facilities provided in Andorra la Vella and El Tarter. Face masks remained mandatory inside the venue.

For production, this meant incorporating checks and operational communication while continuing to account for entry times, the artist schedule and the audience experience. The measures did not remain static throughout the series: every change had to be reflected in venue operations and in the advance information given to attendees.

The 2021 experience shows that access, safety and mobility requirements do not operate in isolation. They affect schedules, staffing levels and communication. Building them into the plan supports better decisions when circumstances change.

What this project documents

Andorra Mountain Music 2021 documents experience in three connected areas: high-mountain event production, coordination of audiovisual suppliers and adapting operations to changes in the programme and entry requirements.

The commercial value of the case lies in explaining the scope, the parties involved, the conditions and the production decisions precisely, without attributing economic impacts to the festival that were not measured. The same approach can be seen in other projects and clients and in the case study on music strategy and booking at L’Abarset.
